Island Fever? Not in the Dominican Republic, one of the largest and diverse Caribbean islands.

We used to host a large variety of printable maps, however with the advent of google maps! & GPS, doesn't really seem to be much point these days....hence the much better interactive Google map of the Dominican Republic below.

With a land size of 18,815 miles square, the island is one of the largest in the Caribbean after Cuba. The Dominican Republic in the West Indies occupies the eastern two-thirds of the island of Hispaniolai. Its area equals that of Vermont and New Hampshire combined. Duarte Peak, at 10,417 ft (3,175 m), is the highest point in the West Indies.

The capitel Santo Dominigo was founded on Aug. 4, 1496, by Bartholomew Columbus, brother of Christopher Columbus, it may be the oldest continuously inhabited European settlement in the Western Hemisphere. Shortly after its founding it became the base from which Diego de Velázquez set out to conquer Cuba. It was the first seat of Spanish colonial administration in the New World. The city was sacked by Sir Francis Drake in 1586. Santo Domingo was almost totally destroyed by a hurricane in 1930 but was rebuilt and renamed Ciudad Trujillo, after dictator Rafael Leonidas Trujillo; the original name was restored in 1961 after his death.
